I primarily study sediments that have been eroded from land and deposited in the ocean, looking at indicators of past climates. I’m especially interested in sediments that tell us about earth’s glacial history, both in Antarctica and in the Northern Hemisphere. In order to conduct this research, I’ve traveled to Antarctica 9 times, and I’ve sailed on 7 scientific drilling cruises in the Northern Hemisphere.
Two things about the Stone Lab experience make it very enjoyable for me. The first is the opportunity to integrate field activities into so many aspects of each class. The second is the caliber and enthusiasm of the students; the students who take courses at Stone Lab really want to be there, which makes the experience so much better for me as an instructor.
