I'm a coal miner’s granddaughter from Logan, WV

Where did you do your studies?

West Virginia University (biology and education), Oregon State University (geological oceanography and education), Virginia Tech (science education)

What’s your research about?

Effectiveness of environmental communications and education; knowledge and attitudes about the oceans and Great Lakes

What’s your favorite thing about Stone Lab?

Living within the learning environment has wonderful opportunities for making the connections between living and nonliving components of the natural world, and I love the opportunity to work closely with students and other faculty.

What are your hobbies?

Knitting and crocheting with plastic bags, making doll clothes for my granddaughter, dog-walking on the beach every day.

Something interesting about you?

I direct the Great Lakes Center for Ocean Sciences Education Excellence (COSEE) from my coastal home in North Carolina! With this NSF/NOAA grant, I can provide teachers with funds to do science activities that their schools cannot afford. Check out our web site at http://coseegreatlakes.net.
